Understanding Invisalign

August 17, 2018

As many of you probably know, a little over a year ago we started offering Invisalign clear aligner therapy in our office. We are so happy to offer this service to our patients. Besides the aesthetic factor, the benefits of Invisalign are many. To help us provide this service we are implementing the Itero scanner. This scanner allows us to take a 3D image of your teeth, so no impressions are needed to create your aligners. We also use this image to create a simulation model of how your teeth will look after they are aligned. See our video below on how the scan is taken.

As stated earlier, there are many benefits to aligning your teeth. Teeth that are crowded or malaligned are more difficult to clean and can lead to poor periodontal health. This can damage the bone and gums and result in tooth loss. Difficult areas to brush are also more prone to tooth decay if plaque is not being removed effectively. In addition to potential periodontal improvement, straightening your teeth properly distributes biting forces and prevents uneven wear, which can weaken teeth. By evenly distributing pressure this also reduces further gum recession.

Dr. Mehr is a certified provider of Invisalign Aligner Therapy. If you would benefit from treatment, Dr. Mehr along with your hygienist will discuss your options. We always provide free consults to help you determine if this treatment is right for you. The consults allow us to see the progress that can be made, as well as determine which level of treatment will best suit your case. There are three different levels of Invisalign, Express, Lite and Full. The plan that benefits you will be determined based on how much tooth movement is needed and how many aligners you need to reach your desired outcome. The length of treatment is determined by how many aligners are required. You will receive a new set every two weeks until your treatment is complete.

If you think Invisalign is right for you, or you want to know more about it, please ask us at your next dental visit. Or call us today to schedule a consultation! (360) 479-4380
